Looking at the ruin of the planet, Nah'yair wondered why Vespera had allowed racers to be sent here. She must have known that it wasn't random fires burning the planet down. Perhaps her idea was to test the winner's ability to defeat the twins by putting them face to face with weaker dragons? Nah'yair neither knew nor cared. She was done trying to figure out Vespera's crackpot motives. Besides, she had a mission. Now that the round was over, Nah'yair had to retrieve the camera that had followed Tyger and Kael 's round while the guards were busy interrogating Tyger. Nah'yair had seen to it that the RRH* was unable to receive video from the camera during the round like Rhaen had asked (how simple it was, too! Just cut a few wires, and all of a sudden the screen goes blank), and now she had to find the camera so that the real retrieval team would think it had been destroyed and no one would see the video of the round. She wondered what could be so potentially devastating to Rhaen's plan about this round. Why would he not want Vespera to see what was going on? Nah'yair was nearly giddy with anticipation to watch the video herself and see.
-------
Nah'yair sat at her desk, re-watching Tyger's last round again on her hover screen. She knew Rhaen's goal, but she didn't understand how the child played into it. It seemed unlikely that Tyger would even make it past the next round, especially with her new injuries. The video was low quality; the camera had been damaged in the fire that killed Kael. She didn't see anything unusual about the round, or anything that Rhaen wouldn't want Vespera to see. As far as Nah'yair could tell, Tyger didn't even know about the plan, so it's not like she could say or do anything to give it away even if she tried.
Just as Nah'yair was rewinding to the beginning once again, a small red light started flashing at the top of the screen. She was receiving a call. She looked at the clock. It must be Rhaen calling to check in. Rhaen had taken some sort of magical communication device that let him speak with Nah'yair no matter how far away he was. It was a nifty little thing. She paused the video and tapped on the little flashing light. All of a sudden the picture of the burned down planet dissolved into a different picture entirely. Nah'yair could see a bright blue sky, dotted with cotton candy pink clouds. Then Rhaen's face entered the frame. The video was very shaky. Rhaen must have been riding some sort of hover bike or something.
"Evening, Nah'yair."
"Actually it's only afternoon here, but it's all the same. How are you?"
"I'm well. Vespera is currently chasing me around a planet on the outskirts of Aleria. How is everything going on your end?"
"Very much according to plan. You'll be glad to know that your daughter made her first kill today."
"Really? I honestly didn't think she had it in her. I guess I should be proud, right? Does that mean the round's over, then?"
"Yes.  I retrieved the camera and only my eyes have seen the video of the round. I don't know what you're so worried about. Your daughter doesn't know about the plan, what could she possibly say or do that would give it away to Vespera?"
"You… don't know? Did you not watch the video?"
"I told you only my eyes have seen it. Of course I watched it. I mean, it's not the best quality, the camera was damaged, but nothing happened out of the ordinary."
Rhaen's head disappeared from the frame for a bit, and when it reappeared his expression was distant, and focused. "I'm sorry, Nah'yair, but I must go. Vespera's catching up. You know, for a blind person she seems to be able to pinpoint my location quite exactly."
"You know she probably has an aura radar that can-"
"I know, Nah'yair. I was simply making a joke. Lighten up."
"I'll keep that in mind. Good luck keeping Vespera busy."
"Good luck keeping the people at the checkpoint ignorant of Vespera's absence. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Same place, same time?"
"Sounds perfect. See you then."
Nah'yair slid a finger across the screen, and it made a quiet 'ding' sound as the picture of Rhaen disappeared, to be replaced by the burned down planet. Her conversation with Rhaen only stoked the curiosity inside her. What did Rhaen think she'd see in the video? She saw nothing but a child, forced to fight and kill to win her father's unattainable approval, but nothing spoke of her father's true intent. What was Nah'yair not seeing?

*RRH=race recording headquarters, in charge of reviewing the streaming video of the rounds from the cameras and giving interesting race snippits to the news networks so they can report on the race. They also send streaming videos of the rounds to Vespera's office so she can keep track of how the race is progressing.

If you don't understand it yet, it's okay. This is mostly just to emphasize where these characters are and their main purpose to my plot at the current point. Also it hints a little bit at something. I don't want to give it away though.

Anyone have any guesses as to what will happen? I'm so excited about this plot. Seriously. It's gonna be epic. :3

Hmm, color me curious about the Regit plot now. I realy really thought there'd be something in there that I could understand differently, but you did a damn good job at making sure that didn't happen. Congrats for that :>
